Description

Description This is a large river cliff exposure in the lower part of the Red Marls equivalent to the Raglan Marls of the Lower Old Red Sandstone. The cliff is the largest exposure of the Red Marls away from Pembrokeshire where the rocks are deformed and the only one at this stratigraphical level in the inland outcrop where larger scale sedimentary features can be examined. The cliff shows a thin sandstone body within a section of about 30 metres of red mudstone and siltstone. The fine grained sediments show a wide variety of soil features. This outcrop contains important information about the environment and especially the processes of deposition, of the overbank muds in the Welsh Lower Devonian.
