Description

Description Wern Road Section is notified for its geological interest and it lies alongside the A497 Porthmadog-Criccieth Road and comprises a 200m long and 3m deep road cutting. A nationally important Tremadoc Series site showing the passage from the Upper Tyn- Llan Beds, through the ‘Dictyonema Band’ into the Moel-y-gest Beds, which here contain a newly discovered and unique assemblage of trilobites, gastropods, nautiloids and brachiopods. A key palaeontological locality of great significance to stratigraphic studies in the Tremadoc of the type area.
