Geological Period: Silurian
Description
Description This forest track section exposes siltstones of Llandovery age, thought to lie around 120 metres above the base of the Silurian. The site yields marine faunas and it is the type locality of many lower Llandovery brachiopod species monographed in recent years. Other shelly fossil groups found at this locality await full taxonomic description. It is an important site showing Llandovery faunas which replaced those typical of the earlier ‘Bala’ rocks. Remarks: The site is known as the Meifod Track Section in the geological literature, but is situated about three miles south-west of the village of Meifod.
