Description Caerwys Tufa is notified for its geological interest as an important site for Quaternary Studies. It provides the finest example of tufa deposits in Britain up to 10 metres thick in places and the only known example of tufa formation during the Devensian Late -glacial. It also contains buried soils and an exceptional biostratigraphic record (molluscs; leaf beds; vertebrae faunas) of environmental changes from the Late-glacial to the middle Flandrian.
