Cwm-gwanon Dingle and Pasture

Description
Description This composite site comprises a good example of mixed deciduous woodland, in which ash, birch and alder predominate, together with a herb-rich permanent pasture. The woodland has a well developed shrub layer with species such as hazel, field maple, and spindle and the ground flora includes the uncommon thin-spiked wood-sedge Carex strigosa. The pasture is of particular note for its large, apparently expanding population of meadow saffron Colchicum autumnale, a nationally uncommon species that is on the western edge of its range in mid-Wales.
