Description

Switha The small island of Switha is situated in Scapa Flow and supports an internationally important wintering population of Greenland barnacle geese Branta leucopsis. The barnacle geese roost on Switha and feed on the neighbouring island of South Walls. An average of 1,200 birds was recorded during the winter of 2002/03 representing approximately 2% of the British population of the Greenland barnacle goose.
