Description
Long Craig Island Long Craig Island Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) is a low, rocky, offshore island in the Firth of Forth situated approximately 200 metres south-west of North Queensferry, lying directly below the Forth Road Bridge. The island supports a nationally important colony of roseate terns Sterna dougallii, with the numbers present regularly of national importance since 1989. This is the only colony of roseate terns in Scotland and one of up to six remaining colonies in Britain. A small number of common terns Sterna hirundo also breed.
