Description

Voxter Voe and Valayre Quarry Valayre Quarry lies on the southern side of Voxter Voe, which is one and a half kilometres north of Brae in the Shetland Mainland. The area contains good geological exposures of the Yell Sound and Scatsta divisions, including the type-locality for Valayre porphyroblastic rock. These two major lithostratigraphical divisions of Shetland have been respectively correlated with the Moine Eilde Flags and the transitional lithologies of the Lower Dalradian of the Loch Leven area of Scotland.
