Description
Rammer Cleugh Rammer Cleugh is located 2km south-east of Stenton village, on the north-east side of the Lammermuir Hills. It is an important botanical site for its ancient woodland interest and as a geomorphological site for an assemblage of glacial meltwater channels and kame terraces. The key geological interest centres on the variety of types of channel and their interrelationships -the spectacular Rammer Cleugh itself probably formed subglacially showing subglacial chutes, ice marginal benches and small marginal and submarginal channels. Additional interest includes the esker on the floor of Rammer Cleugh. Rammer and Deuchrie Woods are almost pure stands of sessile oak and are representative examples of a habitat type now scarce in upland East Lothian.
