Description
Muckle and Little Green Holm Muckle Green Holm and Little Green Holm are two neighbouring uninhabited islands 2 kilometres (km) south-west of Eday and 4 km north of Shapinsay. The larger of the two, Muckle Green Holm, is covered with rough grassland and is grazed by sheep. Both islands have low lying, rocky coastlines comprising rock platforms, boulder beaches and low cliffs. These two islands support a nationally important colony of breeding grey seals Halichoerus grypus. The site regularly supports about 2% of the pups born in the UK and is one of the largest sites for breeding grey seals in Orkney.
