Description
Lochs at Clachan The Lochs at Clachan Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) is located to the south west of North Uist at Clachan na Luib. The site is of national importance for its saline lagoons. The saline lagoons (obain) comprise a series of brackish water lochs with connecting channels showing the transition of flora and fauna from marine species to those characteristic of nutrient-poor freshwater species. The nationally scarce plant, foxtail stonewort Lamprothamnium papulosum, occurs in Oban a’ Clachan.
