Description
Loch of Lintrathen Loch of Lintrathen is located 10 km west of Kirriemuir in lower Glen Isla. The loch occupies a glacial basin and is now used as a reservoir. The site is important for its mesotrophic (moderately nutrient enriched) open water habitat and as a roost for greylag goose in the winter. The loch supports a high diversity of macrophytes for a mesotrophic loch. There is a range of Potamogeton species, including small pondweed P. berchtoldii and perfoliate pondweed Potamogeton perfoliatus, and a variety of species of shallow water and the draw down zone, for example lesser marshwort Apium inundatum, water-purslane Lythrum portula, needle spike-rush Eleocharis acicularis and mudwort Limosella aquatica. In winter the site is used as a roost for important numbers of Icelandic greylag goose.
