Description
Loch Ashie Loch Ashie is a large, open, mesotrophic loch located south east of the great Glen. Most of the shore is stony and exposed with small pockets of emergent vegetation. Loch Ashie is an SSSI because it is the most important site in Britain for gathering pre-and post-breeding Slavonian grebes. Highest numbers of grebes occur in the autumn months when the birds moult and become flightless for a short time. These flocks represent around 10% of the UK population of Slavonian grebes.
