Description
GILLS BURN AND MARE GILL Gills Burn and Mare Gill, lying approximately 2.5km south west of Carluke, contains one of the best examples of semi-natural deciduous gorge woodland in Lanarkshire. The steep slopes support woodland predominately of ash and elm with holly frequent in the shrub layer. The woodland contains a varied understorey and a rich ground flora which includes broad-leaved helleborine Epipactis helleborine.
