Description
GARRION GILL Garrion Gill, located approximately 3 km south of Wishaw, is an outstanding example of semi-natural deciduous gorge woodland. The steep slopes support woodland predominately of ash and elm with the occasional oak on drier soils and with alder in wetter areas. hazel is characteristic of the understorey. The deciduous woodland also has an interesting associated ground flora which includes an uncommon variety of hart's-tongue fern Asplenium scolopendrium, broad-leaved helleborine Epipactis helleborine and alternate leaved golden-saxifrage Chrysosplenium alternifolium.
