Coastal habitats are exposed to sea-level rise and storm erosion. Where hard sea defences sit behind them, there's nowhere landward to retreat to — a squeeze that keeps compressing the habitat no matter how well it's managed.

Description
DRUIMINDARROCH Druimindarroch Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) is located on the north shore of Loch nan Uamh in the Sound of Arisaig on the coast of Lochaber. It provides a representative section through rocks of the Lower Morar Psammite Formation, a prominent unit in the lower part of the Morar Group of the Moine Supergroup, and reveals the various deformation phases present in this part of the Moine succession. In addition to good examples of sedimentary structures and examples of minor fold structures, the semipelites in the north east part of the site contain well developed microcline feldspar porphyroblasts. The differing forms of these porphyroblasts reflect the timing of their formation in relation to various phases of deformation. This enables the timing of the (lower amphibolite-facies) metamorphic conditions that produced the microcline to be determined relative to the occurrence of the various physical folding events. The combination of excellent exposures, exceptionally well developed microcline feldspar porphyroblasts and clear structural relationships makes this an excellent site for interpreting the folding and metamorphic history of this part of the Moine.
