Description
DALSETTER Dalsetter covers the summit and upper slopes of a low ridge on the eastern side of Dunrossness, in the south Shetland Mainland, 26km south of Lerwick. It consists of a large area of subalpine dry heath vegetation and supports a breeding population of Arctic terns. The subalpine dry heath is dominated by heather, woolly hair moss and Cladonia lichens and is the largest and best example of this habitat in Shetland. In other parts of the site, short grassland regularly supports >1% of the GB Arctic tern Sterna paradisaea population.
