Coastal habitats are exposed to sea-level rise and storm erosion. Where hard sea defences sit behind them, there's nowhere landward to retreat to — a squeeze that keeps compressing the habitat no matter how well it's managed.

Description
CEANN LOCH EISHORT Ceann Loch Eishort Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) lies near the head of Loch Eishort in the south of Skye and comprises two areas of land on opposing sides of the loch and several small rocky islands located within the narrow channel between them. This SSSI provides a reference section for sandstones and mudstones of the upper part of the Kinloch Formation, which is the youngest formation within the Sleat Group of the Torridonian. Elsewhere, the formation is poorly exposed but at Ceann Loch Eishort SSSI particularly good exposures are present on the coast. The sandstones show excellent examples of sedimentary structures and are interpreted as having been laid down on alluvial fans and in ephemeral lakes.
