Description
CARRISTON RESERVOIR Carriston Reservoir Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) is situated 10 km northeast of Glenrothes, near the village of Star, Fife. This mesotrophic water body supports a particularly diverse submerged-aquatic flora, including the largest number of pondweed Potamogeton species of any open water site in Fife. Several locally uncommon vascular plant species occur, including the rare mudwort Limosella aquatica. Carriston Reservoir is also the only known site in Fife where the freshwater snail Radix auricularia, which is uncommon and declining in Scotland, is found.
