Description
CALF OF EDAY The Calf of Eday is an uninhabited island lying to the northeast of Eday between the North Sound and Eday Sound. The island has a rocky coastline with cliffs along the north and east shores. The land cover is predominately dry dwarf-shrub heath dominated by heather, which along with some areas of semi-improved grassland provide an important nesting site for the cormorant. Calf of Eday supports a nationally and internationally important breeding colony of cormorant contributing to 3% of the British population.
