Description
BRANXHOLME EASTER LOCH Branxholme Easter Loch Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) is located approximately 10 km south-west of Hawick. This is the only intact, natural lime-rich loch remaining in the Scottish Borders. The loch is small but relatively deep, and is moderately productive with the maximum diversity of aquatic plants expected in a loch of this type. The loch conditions promote the growth of stonewort Charra spp. and rare Potamogeton (pondweed) species including Potamogeton praelongus, both of which occur frequently across the site.
