Description
AUSKERRY Auskerry, a small low-lying island, lies 5km south of the island of Stronsay and is approximately 1.5km by 1km. The site supports the nationally and internationally important breeding Arctic tern and Storm petrel. The island supports one of the largest storm petrel (Hydrobates pelagicus) breeding colonies in Orkney and is equivalent to at least 2% of the British population. Auskerry is one of the main locations in Orkney for breeding Arctic tern (Sterna paradisaea) with at least 1% of the British breeding population present.
