Description
Description Thorpe Park No. 1 Gravel Pit is of national importance for wintering gadwall Mareca strepera. Thorpe Park No. 1 Gravel Pit is a former gravel pit which has now matured to a relatively stable ecological state, the banks being almost entirely dominated by trees and shrubs. The site also supports a number of other species of wintering waterfowl including goldeneye Bucephala clangula and smew Mergellus albellus which occur regularly in small but significant numbers.
