Description
Description Kingsbury Brickworks is the best known available site for showing the unconformable contact between the Upper Carboniferous Halesowen Formation of late Westphalian Dage and the underlying Etruria Formation of probable Westphalian C age. At Kingsbury the Halesowen Formation consists mainly of coarse grained cross bedded sandstones which represent sediments transported from a land mass to the south. This contrasts markedly with the coeval Newcastle Formation found further north, which contains a much greater proportion of mudstones and siltstones. The strata at Kingsbury therefore provide a valuable insight into the palaeogeography of Britain during late Westphalian times.
