Description
Description Harthope Burn is important for fluvial geomorphology and demonstrates a number of features characteristic of upland rivers. The historic flood plain in partially entrenched into two low terraces and confined laterally by steep valley sides mantled with soliflucted till. Prominent landforms on the flood plain include arcuate depressions marking former channels and historic flood boulder berms. Mid channel and lateral channel bars are well developed in the present channel together with side channels, chutes and sloughs typical of an active gravel bed channel undergoing irregular lateral activity.
