Description

Description The sediments at Bushley Green which were formerly exposed in an adjacent gravel pit, are probably the most important in the Severn Valley for the reconstruction of the sequence of river terraces of the Pleistocene era. This is the type site of the Bushley Green Terrace and is the only locality within the sequence of Severn terraces where temperate mammal and mollusc faunas have been recorded. Further research is required to determine whether the sediments here prove the presence of an interglacial or an interstadial period. The site is of prime importance for the dating of the Severn terrace sequence and for correlation between this and the neighbouring Avon valley, as well as more correlation further afield within the British Pleistocene.
