Description
Description Gipsy Lane Pit has long been an important site to geologists, not only for its position in Triassic stratigraphy, but also for its sedimentary structures, the sedimentological petrogenesis of mudstones and dolomitic limestones and its well displayed anhydrite metamorphism. However its important is greatest to mineralogists as it is rich in sulphide minerals, including imperfectly understood and unidentified species. The genesis of all the observed mineral deposits is not understood and warrants intensive study. Its interest is unique in Britain and possibly internationally.
