Description

East Ogwell Quarry SSSI Description This small quarry exposes Devonian limestone beds typical of the West Hill succession of the East Ogwell Limestone (Givetian-Frasnian). The locality has yielded a rich marine fossil fauna. Its limestones show lithologies indicative of deposition in a shallow-water, carbonate platform environments; contrasting strongly with bioherm (‘reef’) developments forming elsewhere in the East Ogwell Limestone at that time.
