Description

Lower Dunscombe Farm Quarry SSSI Description. This site is important in illustrating some of the facies variations which occur in the Devonian sedimentary rocks of south Devon. This locality provides a good exposure of the topmost Chudleigh Limestone (Frasnian) and displays well the transition from a carbonate platform environment, with a rich coral fauna, to a deeper water environment, with goniatites. The goniatite bearing horizon, the Lower Dunscombe Goniatite Band, is useful for local correlation in the Chudleigh area.
