Description

Dean Steep SSSI Description A new site. In Exmoor National Park. In County Structure Plan Nature Conservation Zone. This extensive section provides excellent exposures of the Devonian aged ‘Lynton Beds’ and the overlying ‘Hangman Sandstone’ formations. Fossils indicate that the boundary between these two series of rocks corresponds approximately to the boundary between the Lower and Middle Devonian rocks, which are here seen to grade conformably into each other without any break in the sequence.
