Description
Area, 2.1 ha. 5.1 ac. Description This section through the boundary between Downtonian and Dittonian deposits which approximates to the Silurian – Devonian boundary, contains several beds of fossil fish yielding a number of different species. Faunal changes through time can be recognised and, by comparison with sections of similar age further north, a faunal variation controlled by environmental factors can be studied. This is the type locality for recently discovered species of acanthodian, cephalaspid and an early arthrodire and is a key locality for studies of fish faunas in the Silurian – Devonian boundary beds.
