Description

Wheal Gorland SSSI Description Wheal Gorland was essentially a copper producer. However, in this area all the mineral zones are telescoped, with the result that the lodes contain minerals from the tin zone to the lead zone, due to repeated brecciation and mineralization. Furthermore, due to the mine being wet, much of the ore is altered to secondary minerals. These circumstances have combined to make the dumps at Wheal Gorland unrivalled in the world for the variety and quality of secondary lead and copper minerals they have produced.
