Geology & landscape

Geological Period: Cambrian · Rock Type: Conglomerate

Description

Area, 0.06 ha. 0.15 ac. Description Two exposures in a classic area for geology showing the basal conglomerate of the Harnage Shales Ordocivian resting discordantly on tilted Uriconian volcanics pre Cambrian. The nature of this contact illustrates the extent of earth movements which affected the pre Cambrian rocks before the deposition of the Harnage Shales. The Harnage Shales at these outcrops have yielded an extensive shelly fauna. This is a key site showing a regionally significant unconformity.
