Description

Area, 2.75 ha. 6.8 ac. Description Geology This is an historically famous geological locality providing the only clear exposure in the area of the junction between the Cambrian and Ordovician Systems. The basal Ordovician Stiperstones Quartzite here rests upon fossiliferous Cambrian shales of the Tremadoc Series, the junction between the two being discordant. This discordance is developed over much of Wales and is of considerable importance. This is the only clear exposure demonstrating this feature and is thus a key geological locality.
