Description
Area, 17.3 ha. 42.7 ac. Description Manton Stone Quarry is of particular importance in the interpretation of the local, internal stratigraphy of the Lower Lincolnshire Limestone Formation. It provides excellent exposures of the Kirton Cementstone Member, as well as the only existing section of the Santon Oolite and Ravensthorpe Members. It has thus provided essential information on the inter relationships of the latter beds and is considered to be a key exposure of the more northerly development of the Lincolnshire Limestone. Other Information The site is identified as of national importance in the Geological Conservation Review.
