Description
Area, 0.81 hectares 2.0 ac Description This slate mine, actively exploited until 1963, exposes the ‘Collyweston Slate’ of the Jurassic lower Lincolnshire Limestone Formation. A stratigraphically important section is visible in the shaft and the site also provides a useful illustration of the now virtually defunct mode of exploitation of the slates. An important site as the type locality for the slate, over which there has been much debate concerning dating.
