Description

Mount Wise SSSI Description A site within the Plymouth Limestone Group, of Givetian (Middle Devonian) age, which has long been known as a good fossiliferous locality. Of particular interest here, however, is the Mount Wise Shell Bed – a discontinuous horizon very rich in shelly remains of importance not only as a fossil locality, but also useful for correlation purposes as it appears to be equivalent to the Lummaton Shell Beds Member in the Torquay area.
