Geological Period: Devonian

Description

Richmond Walk SSSI Description This site exposes a good section through fossiliferous Devonian limestones notable for their coral and conodont faunas, of mid-late Givetian age. This site is of importance in interpreting the changing palaeoecology of the area in mid-Devonian times. Richmond Walk illustrates the transition from black argillaceous limestones to massive, grey stomatoporoid limestones, indicating a shallowing of the sea locally during the Givetian.
