Description
Description The only available exposure of the fossiliferous Eymore Farm Marine Band. Its diverse fauna indicates that it is a correlative of the Mansfield Marine Band, which is taken as the index horizon for the Westphalian B – Westphalian C boundary. It is the only marine band to be found in the Wyre Forest Coalfield, suggesting that it was formed by the most extensive marine incursion to occur in Britain during the Westphalian Epoch. Furthermore, its position relative to the base of the Etruria Formation in this area provides an important guide as to the onset of red bed deposition here. The site is thus of considerable importance for understanding the palaeogeographical development of Britain during the Middle Carboniferous.
