Description
Description This site is of geological interest because rocks of Palaeocene age here yield an important mammalian fauna including representatives of the seven orders, including the oldest British members of the Rodentia, Artiodactyla and Perissodactyla rodents and hoofed animals. This locality and Belgian sites of approximately the same age have yielded the earliest artiodactyls and Hyracotherium ancestral horse in Europe; and probably worldwide.
