Description
Description New Park Quarry has yielded abundant well preserved remains of crocodiles Steneosaurus and dinosaurs Megalosaurus, Cetiosaurus, Stegosaurus. The bones are disarticulated, but very well preserved. The fauna comes from the Chipping Norton Formation Lower Bathonian, zigzag Zone and is the oldest assemblage of Jurassic dinosaurs in Britain. As a forerunner of the better known Middle Bathonian faunas of Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire, the animals from New Park Quarry are extremely important in studies of the evolution and ecology of dinosaurs.
