Description
Description Everthorpe Quarry provides the best exposure in Britain of the Cave Oolite. This section has also provided the only known ammonite from this horizon. It is thus of considerablestratigraphic importance in establishing the correlation of this isolated unit with its lateral equivalents; the Cayton Bay Formation in Yorkshire and the Lincolnshire Limestone Formation to the south. Other Information 1. The site is identified as being of national importance in the Geological Conservation Review, under the name Eastfield Quarry. 2. The GCR site was formerly notified* under the name South Cave Pit's. 3. During the 1986 revision the boundary has been amended to exclude some land, and include some land not previously notified*. * Under Section 23 of the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act, 1949.
