Description
Area, 3.8 ha. 9.3 ac. Description This quarry shows the finest available exposure of the Bargate Beds which are a distinct lithological sub unit of the Lower Greensand Sandgate Beds in the north western Weald. The quarry is also of great significance in providing the best field illustration of the phenomena associated with chert formation in the Bargate Beds showing both the calcareous and cherty sandstone lithologies characteristic of these beds in the region.
