Description
Description An extensive quarry and spoil heap complex, this site provides the best available exposure of the Redesdale Ironstone Shales, an Asbian Lower Carboniferous deposit renowned for its rich and varied fauna. One band in particular within the deposit contains an exceptionally well preserved molluscan fauna. This is a key site for future palaeoecological and palaeontological studies. The problematic stratigraphical position of this well known deposit gives Redesdale great research potential. This is one of the richest faunal localities in Dinantian strata in Britain.
