Description
Polyne Quarry SSSI Description This is a new site. The site is listed in the Geological Conservation review. Polyne Quarry is the best inland exposure of fossiliferous horizons of the Lower Devonian Meadfoot Group in North Cornwall. This locality has yielded a rich and varied fauna in a characteristic lithology of brown shales, which contrasts with more sandy horizons exposed around Looe. The fauna from this locality is of considerable importance in establishing a Siegenian age for the Meadfoot Group in this region.
