Geology & landscape
Geological Period: Silurian · Rock Type: Limestone
Description
Area, 4.3 ha. 10.6 ac. Description This site shows extensive and continuous exposures of Upper Silurian rocks through the whole Ludfordian succession of the Abberley area, from the Aymestrey Limestone Group, through the Upper Ludlow Shales into the Downtonian. Both the Aymestrey and Ludlow Groups contain a rich, brachiopod dominated shelly macrofauna. The well preserved acritarch microflora makes it possible to assign the section to the biozones of Leoniella carminae and Visbysphaera whitcliffense.
