Description
Area, 1.0 ha. 2.5 ac. Description The rocks seen in Baileycroft Quarry were laid down under the sea some 330 million years ago during the Carboniferous Period. The site is of importance to geologists as it exposes the junction between two important rock sequences within the upper part of the Carboniferous Limestone and provides a vital link in understanding the detailed geography of the region during this period. The rock sequence seen here contains sedimentary features which enable geologists to recognise and interpret the events which were taking place here during the deposition of the Carboniferous Limestone.
