Geological Period: Devonian

Description

Area, 0.1 ha. 0.2 ac. Description This site exposes the Upper Devonian Farlovian Sandstones which have yielded a series of fossil vertebrates mainly fish, some of which are unique to this formation. These were first discovered at a locality nearby the type locality which has since been obscured. Forms present include Bothriolepis, Holoptychius, Eusthenopteron farloviensis and Pseudo sauripterus anglicus. This is a key site for studies of Upper Devonian fish.
