Description
Area,185.7 hectares 458.8 ac Description The section of coast between Howick and Seaton Point is an outstanding mid Carboniferous locality. It provides one of the few shoreline exposures of the Namurian and an excellent section through the Upper Limestone Group and the unconformably overlying ‘Durham Millstone Grit’. The section is the best exposure of the Namurian in Northumberland and is of particular value as it shows the truerelationship between the Yoredale type sedimentation and the overlying arenaceous ‘Millstone Grit’ sediments. Nationally important numbers of golden plover are known to use this section of coast.
